API/SDK help

Hi, I have a few question on the SDK,

1. Where does the api live? on the SD Fly app on my tablet or in the controller itself. 

2. Looks like I can get video feed through the api, how about still photos? I guess I can convert the feed, but worried about space and memory consumption on the tablet screen.
